Examining the ethical implications of natural language processing. The Edinburgh Futures Institute’s Centre for Technomoral Futures and the School of Informatics are delighted to invite applications for this funded PhD studentship, to begin in the academic year 2025/2026.

The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), have appointed Centre for Technomoral Futures Director, Professor Shannon Vallor, and Professor Ewa Luger to direct the £3.5 million programme ‘Enabling a Responsible AI Ecosystem’ in collaboration with the Ada Lovelace Institute.

The Edinburgh Futures Institute is delighted to announce the launch of the five PhD studentships for entry in 2020/2021. The studentships will support research into the ethical challenges posed by the growing use of data and artificial intelligence. Funded by global investment firm Baillie Gifford, each place offers a stipend, tuition fees and an annual research budget.

An anonymous donor has pledged £10m to help transform the city’s former Royal Infirmary into a state-of-the-art home for the Edinburgh Futures Institute.
