EFI Visiting Fellows for 2024-2025
This year, the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) welcomes it's first round of Visiting Fellows! This includes Dr Anissa Tanweer and Dr Audrey Borowski, who will be joining our Centre for Technomoral Futures (CTMF) Research Community while they are here!
Dr Anissa Tanweer
EFI Visiting Fellow from September 2024 - February 2025
Dr Anissa Tanweer conducts research on the practice and culture of computationally-mediated science. She leads a longterm ethnographic study concerned with the rise of data science in the academy, and her newest project focuses on the moral economy of data-intensive astrophysics. In her post with the eScience Institute at the University of Washington, she applies her sociotechnical lens to the development, implementation, and evaluation of collaboration and training programs for data-intensive academic research. This includes her work with the UW Data Science for Social Good program and the UW Scientific Software Engineering Center.
Dr Audrey Borowski
EFI Visiting Fellow in Spring 2025
Dr Audrey Borowski is a Research Fellow on the “Desirable Digitalization” project between the Universities of Bonn and Cambridge. She gained her doctorate from the University of Oxford. Her monograph, ‘Leibniz in his World: The Making of a Savant,’ is forthcoming with Princeton University Press. Dr Borowski is currently working on her second book, ‘Philosophers of the Digital.’
About the EFI Visiting Fellowships
Visiting fellows will be able to take part in EFI’s seminars and events programmes, access EFI’s training courses, and interact with other academics affiliated with EFI and CTMF, our partners from the business and third sector, and our students. The scheme will therefore help the fellows to develop their research in conversation with colleagues in Edinburgh but will also allow EFI and the wider University to foster new international collaborative links.
A new call for scholars visiting in 2025-2026 will open in Autumn 2024.
