Join us for a free and open to all (subject to room capacity) lecture by Abeba Birhane on "The Limits of Fairness" in AI ethics.

This event is co-sponsored with AI Ethics and Society (AIES), a group based at the University of Edinburgh that facilitates events exploring societal and ethical facets of artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies, with a particular focus on building a community of early-career researchers; you can learn more here.

The event will take place in person, at the University of Edinburgh’s INSPACE venue (map link), and will be followed by a drinks reception.


About the speaker

Abeba Birhane

Abeba Birhane is a cognitive scientist researching human behaviour, social systems, and responsible and ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI). Her interdisciplinary research explores various broad themes in cognitive science, AI, complexity science, and theories of decoloniality. More specifically, Birhane examines the challenges and pitfalls of computational models of human behaviour.
